Considered treatments. Consistent care.
Microneedling at Solea.
Smoother texture. Softer-looking acne scars. Skin that feels more refined over time. Microneedling works with your skin’s repair response to build new collagen, with a treatment plan shaped around your goals.
Usually 4–6 weeks between visits, adjusted to your recovery and treatment depth.
Early changes develop over weeks; collagen remodelling continues for approximately 3–6 months.
What is microneedling?
Also called collagen induction therapy, microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries. Your skin responds by repairing and reorganizing its supporting tissue. The aim is a smoother surface and a gradual improvement in texture, scars and fine lines.
This guide covers conventional microneedling, rather than radiofrequency microneedling. Treatment settings, areas and recovery are chosen after a skin assessment.
The benefits
Selected active acne: early clinical evidence supports a potential role in reducing breakouts as well as addressing acne scars, using an appropriate professional protocol.
A strong anti-ageing treatment for both early care and mature skin. Microneedling stimulates new collagen and supports gradual improvements in the visible signs of ageing. It fits a proactive skin-quality plan as well as a corrective series for established concerns.
- Softer fine lines and wrinkles: collagen remodelling supports a smoother-looking surface over the following months.
- Firmer-looking skin: helps improve the appearance of mild laxity and early loss of firmness.
- More refined mature-skin texture: addresses roughness, unevenness and visible pores that can become more noticeable over time.
- Long-term skin-quality support: a considered series and maintenance plan can support a fresher, more youthful appearance as your skin changes.
- Acne-scar refinement: improves the appearance of suitable indented scars, including rolling and some boxcar scars.
- Smoother texture: softens a rough or uneven-looking surface.
- Fine-line improvement: supports a smoother appearance as new collagen develops.
- Skin quality and firmness: supports the skin’s structural renewal rather than relying only on a temporary surface glow.
- More refined-looking pores: improves their appearance alongside overall texture.
- More even-looking tone: can form part of a plan for selected post-breakout marks and uneven pigmentation.
- Selected scars and stretch marks: these can be assessed separately for suitability and treatment area.
Who is it best suited to?
For early signs of ageing & mature skin
Microneedling is a great option to discuss if your priority is anti-ageing: early fine lines, more established wrinkles, mild loss of firmness, or a rougher, less refined complexion. You do not need acne scars to benefit from a treatment plan focused on collagen and overall skin quality. Mature skin is assessed for barrier health and healing capacity so treatment intensity and spacing fit your needs.
A preventative approach to visible ageing
Starting a considered skin-quality routine before changes become pronounced can include microneedling when appropriate. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is the foundation for helping prevent premature sun-related ageing; treatment, homecare and maintenance work alongside it. Microneedling supports renewal and addresses visible changes while natural ageing continues.
Microneedling is especially useful when your main concern is texture: healed acne scars, fine lines, visible pores or early loss of firmness. Your skin should be calm, intact and able to heal well.
Microneedling can also be considered for selected active-acne cases. Emerging research on conventional microneedling has reported reductions in both inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions. Acne severity, skin condition, medications and the specific device instructions determine whether it is appropriate; active acne is assessed individually rather than automatically excluding everyone with breakouts. Melasma, persistent redness and deeper or tethered scars need a specific assessment; a combination plan or medical referral may be more appropriate.

Active acne: what does the research show?
A 2023 pilot study of conventional microneedling reported fewer inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions. Twelve participants completed treatment; the study had no untreated control group and was funded by the device manufacturer. These promising findings support further research, rather than establishing suitability for every acne type or device.
When will you see results?
The first few days
Warmth, redness or a darker flushed appearance, mild swelling and tightness are part of early recovery. An immediate plumped look includes temporary swelling; it is not the final collagen result.
The following weeks
As the surface settles, skin begins to look and feel more refined. Compare progress photos in the same light rather than judging your skin immediately after treatment.
Approximately 3–6 months
New collagen formation and remodelling continue beneath the surface. This is why scar and fine-line changes are assessed over months, including after the last visit in a series.
We usually space visits 4–6 weeks apart, with longer intervals when your skin needs them. Four- and six-session packages allow a consistent course; maintenance is planned around your skin, homecare and goals.
What happens during your visit?
- Review: we check your skin, medications, recent treatments and preparation.
- Prepare: the area is cleansed, and numbing may be used when appropriate after checking for allergies.
- Treat: a sterile, single-use needle cartridge is used, with treatment adjusted to each area.
- Recover: we explain your immediate care, product pauses and next visit. Your personalized instructions take priority if your treatment requires a different recovery schedule.
Contraindications & when to postpone
Do not treat over
- Active cold sores, a skin infection, open wounds or sunburn.
- Severe nodulocystic acne, or open, draining or secondarily infected lesions. These need medical assessment before a needling plan is considered.
- An active eczema, psoriasis or significant dermatitis flare in the area.
- A suspicious lesion or an area being treated for skin cancer.
Tell us before booking
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding: treatment is deferred pending suitability review.
- Current or recent isotretinoin use. The required interval depends on your device instructions, prescriber and skin recovery; do not book until cleared.
- A history of keloids, poor wound healing, uncontrolled diabetes or immune suppression.
- A bleeding disorder, blood-thinning medication, systemic steroids, chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
- Allergy to needle metals, numbing products or proposed aftercare ingredients.
- Recent laser, peels, waxing, surgery, injectables or another resurfacing treatment.
- Cold-sore history, even without an active sore. A prescriber may recommend preventive antiviral treatment.
Do not stop prescribed medication yourself. Share your full medication and supplement list so timing can be agreed with your prescriber where needed.
Pre-care: before your appointment
Based on Solea’s existing microneedling care guide.
7 days before
- Pause non-prescription retinol, strong exfoliating acids and at-home peels. Arrange any prescription-product pause with your prescriber and provider.
- Avoid waxing, threading and laser on the treatment area.
- Avoid tanning and sunburn. Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily.
- Tell us about recent procedures so we can set the right treatment interval.
3 days before
- Pause scrubs, physical exfoliants and benzoyl peroxide, unless your provider or doctor directs otherwise.
- Keep to a mild cleanser, hydrating serum, moisturizer and sunscreen.
- Avoid introducing a new active product.
On the day
- Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin where possible and skip active products that morning.
- Tell us if you feel unwell, have a new breakout, have a cold sore starting, or have changed medications.
- Allow a few days of visible recovery before an event. Schedule important events around your own healing pattern.
Post-care: the days after
Use your individual Solea aftercare plan and the products approved for your treatment. Do not apply ordinary cosmetic products to freshly needled skin to increase their absorption.
Immediately to 24 hours
- Keep hands clean and avoid touching, rubbing or picking.
- Use only the immediate aftercare products we approve. Follow the washing time given at your appointment; do not add an extra cleanse if you were told to wait 24 hours.
- A brief cool, clean compress can ease warmth. Do not apply ice directly.
- Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours, ideally 24–48 hours, and longer if your skin has not recovered.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy sweating, hot showers, hot baths, saunas and direct sun.
24–72 hours
- Once cleared to cleanse, use a mild cleanser and lukewarm water; pat dry.
- Use a fragrance-free moisturizer and a recommended hydrating serum.
- Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ once advised for your recovering skin. Until then, protect with shade, a hat and avoiding direct exposure.
- Keep retinoids, acids, scrubs, cleansing brushes, self-tanner and irritating vitamin C out of the routine.
Days 3–7
- Allow any dry or flaky skin to shed naturally.
- Continue hydration and daily sunscreen. Avoid waxing, dermaplaning and exfoliating treatments while healing.
- At about one week, and only once skin is calm and your provider agrees, gradually restart actives one at a time.
Between visits
Stay consistent with your recommended routine, avoid tanning and keep your progress photos. If your skin is still irritated when your next visit approaches, contact us before the appointment.
What is normal, and when to get help?
Temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling, tightness and flaking should settle rather than become progressively worse. Infection, pigment changes and scarring are less common risks.
Seek prompt medical care for spreading redness or heat, increasing pain, pus, fever, blistering or marked swelling. Severe facial swelling, breathing difficulty or eye symptoms need urgent assessment. For routine recovery questions, text Solea at (289) 279-1754.
