Is Microneedling Worth It? Here’s What You Need to Know

Microneedling is often called the gold standard of anti-aging — and for good reason. By creating controlled micro-channels in the skin, it triggers your body's own collagen and elastin production, softening acne scars, fine lines, pores, and pigmentation from the...

Is Microneedling Worth It? Here’s What You Need to Know

If there's one treatment we recommend more than almost any other for clients who are serious about aging well, it's microneedling. Not because it's trendy. Because it's one of the few things in skincare that changes the skin's actual structure — not just how it looks on the surface.

Here's what it does, what it treats, and honestly, who it isn't for.

How it actually works

Microneedling creates hundreds of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the upper layers of the skin. Your body reads those channels as a signal to repair — and the repair response ramps up collagen and elastin production in the exact areas we treat.

Collagen is what keeps skin firm. Elastin is what lets it bounce back. Both drop off measurably from your mid-twenties onward, and no cream builds them from scratch. Microneedling is one of the few in-clinic treatments that genuinely does.

The results build slowly, in the deeper layers, over weeks. That's a feature, not a flaw. It's why the improvements last.

What it treats

Microneedling is one of the most versatile treatments we offer. Clients come to us for it to address:

  • Acne scarring — especially rolling and boxcar scars

  • Fine lines and early wrinkles

  • Enlarged pores

  • Uneven skin texture

  • Post-acne pigmentation and dullness

  • Overall firmness and skin quality as a preventative treatment in your 20s and 30s

It works whether you're correcting something specific or investing in long-term skin health.

How we customize it

The device is only half the treatment. What we infuse into those micro-channels during the session is the other half. Depending on your skin, we may use:

  • Hyaluronic acid — for deep hydration, plumping, and post-treatment recovery

  • A peptide, collagen, and ceramide blend — for early signs of aging and barrier support

  • Tranexamic acid — for stubborn hyperpigmentation and melasma

  • Microneedling paired with BioRePeel — our most powerful combination for pigmentation, texture, and clarity, done in the same visit

Your first consultation is where we decide which of these makes sense for your skin, your budget, and your timeline.

Safety and standards

We use the e-Pen microneedling device by Salient Medical — a medical-grade, professional device approved for use in Canada. It's not a home roller, and it's not the cordless pen you can buy on Amazon. There's a real difference in depth control, needle precision, and results, which is why we invested in the professional-grade device we use on every client.

Sanitation is non-negotiable. Every client gets a brand-new, sterile, single-use needle cartridge opened in front of you. Hospital-grade disinfectants are used on every surface between treatments. This is the standard we would expect ourselves, and it's the standard we set for you.

Our philosophy is progressive, not aggressive. We build the skin's strength over time rather than pushing it past what it can tolerate in a single session. That's how we get long-term results without setbacks.

Who microneedling isn't for

Part of doing this well is being honest about who shouldn't book. We would not perform microneedling on you if you have:

  • An active cold sore or skin infection in the treatment area

  • A history of keloid scarring

  • Recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use within the last 6 months

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Certain autoimmune conditions or immunosuppression

  • Very recent sunburn or a fresh tan

If any of these apply, we'll talk you through what to do first, or which of our other treatments would suit you better.

What a series actually looks like

You'll notice a glow and slightly refined texture after your very first session — that's real, and it's satisfying. But the structural changes we're actually after take a series to build.

For most clients, we recommend 4 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. That spacing gives your skin time to complete its natural healing and collagen-building cycle between treatments. Rushing it doesn't produce faster results — it just produces more inflammation.

After the initial series, most clients maintain their results with a treatment every 3 to 4 months.

What the day of feels like

Comfort matters. Here's what to actually expect:

  • We apply a medical-grade numbing cream 20 to 30 minutes before treatment. Most clients describe the session itself as a light vibration or scratching sensation — not painful.

  • Immediately after, your skin will look flushed, similar to a mild sunburn. That fades within 12 to 24 hours for most people.

  • Days 2 and 3: some tightness, mild dryness, sometimes a very fine flakiness as the surface renews.

  • By day 4 or 5, you're back to normal.

You can safely book microneedling on a Wednesday or Thursday and be photograph-ready by the weekend.

Aftercare (the short version)

For the first 24 to 48 hours:

  • No makeup

  • No gym, hot yoga, sauna, or hot showers

  • Gentle cleanser and a bland moisturizer only

For the first 5 to 7 days:

  • No retinoids, exfoliating acids, or vitamin C

  • Daily SPF is non-negotiable — this is the fastest way to undo the results you just paid for

We'll send you home with a clear written aftercare sheet, and we're always a text away if you're unsure.
